To Welcome Tomorrow

While we were wandering in the woods on our family camping trip a couple weeks ago, we found this drawing in a fallen tree. It is made by bugs! It stopped us in our tracks because we initially thought it was something carved by a person. The artists throughout this creation are abundant and their simple masterpieces are all around us.

I've been challenged by several people recently about why I spend time wandering in the wilds. Upon reflection, here's my explanation, though not my apology. :-) As I've faced the mountains and valleys that are mine to face, I have often found myself stretched beyond recognition. The sorrow, the fatigue, and even the hopelessness can warp my perspective and sometimes just doing the next thing is about the best I can commit to.

When I walk out into Creation the wonder and magnitude is realized (again), and the things that overwhelm me are subdued. I am reminded of how small I am and how blessed to be a part of it all. I see outside of myself and the small world I've molded by my own limitations.

I am renewed with hope because it puts life back into perspective for me. I am given strength which has been useful in ways I could not have imagined. I am given joy because I love what I see.

If I face my giants today and succeed, I will rejoice and ready myself for tomorrow. And, simply put - the beauty of this day helps me welcome tomorrow.
